Happy Bike Month from WAY TO GO

This year, Bike Month encourages everyone to "feel your best on a bike."

Every May, WAY TO GO and the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) celebrates National Bike Month throughout the Kansas City region by sharing educational resources, telling stories related to bicycling and hosting events to get people on two wheels.

This year’s theme “Feel Your Best on a Bike” focused on highlighting the physical, mental and social health benefits of riding a bike.

E-Bike Petting Zoo

To celebrate the start of Bike Month, WAY TO GO partnered with MARC and RideKC Bike to host an E-Bike Petting Zoo at the Brookside Farmers’ Market on May 3.

Visitors had the chance to chat with current e-bike owners, get honest feedback on what it’s like to ride and maintain an e-bike and take a few models out for a spin. More than 20 people brought their personal bikes, ranging from sleek commuters to cargo bikes kitted out to haul everything from kids to groceries. Southwind Cycling and RideKC Bike also brought a selection of e-bike models, giving attendees even more options to test out.

Many thanks to the Brookside Farmers’ Market for hosting the event!

Stories

WAY TO GO and MARC also connected with Robin Shook of Children’s Mercy Hospital and retired family physician Dr. Jeff Dorsett and produced short video interviews with them. Their conversations can be seen below.

Update to the Regional Trails and Bikeways Map

Every two years, MARC produces a print map of all the trails and bikeways in the Kansas City region. A map was last produced in 2024, but MARC printed additional copies this year to replenish the supply in time for Bike Month.  To request a print map or view the online version, visit the MARC website.
