Throughout the month of October, Green Commute Challenge participants tracked biking, walking, scootering, carpooling, vanpooling or transit trips on the WAY TO GO app. Participants logged 8,331 green commute trips, traveled 52,880 miles, saved $33,050 on gas and cut 22.4 tons of carbon emissions.
2023 Green Commute Challenge Winners
Congratulations to the 2023 Green Commute Challenge winners! Each of the winning teams received a plaque and recognition at the finale party. The first-place individual won a Momentum E+ e-bike from Elite Cycling in their choice of size and color.

Thanks to donations from local businesses, 11 prizes were awarded to participants as part of weekly prize drawings.
Highlights of the Challenge

Launch of the WAY TO GO app
This was the first challenge using the new WAY TO GO brand. With the rebranding also came the new WAY TO GO app, which provided new functionality, including multi-modal commute logging and increased ease of use

E-Bike Petting Zoo
WAY TO GO collaborated with RideKC Bike and BikeWalkKC to host an e-bike petting zoo at the Brookside Farmers Market on Oct. 6. Prospective e-bike owners had the chance to try out different models and talk to current owners about their experiences riding, commuting on and owning e-bikes.

Green Commuter Deals
Five local businesses, including Bay Boy Sandwiches, Café Corazon, Garden House Café, Oddly Correct and Urban Hikes KC, offered discounts to Green Commute Challenge participants.

Green Commuter Stop
WAY TO GO set up a pop-up breakfast commuter stop at 41st and Gillham Road in Kansas City, Missouri, on Oct. 20. Hungry commuters got to enjoy Hana’s Donuts and Mildred’s coffee.

Finale Party
WAY TO GO celebrated the challenge participants and winners with a pizza party at Velo Garage Tap House in North Kansas City, Missouri, on Nov. 9.
