Our Vision
WAY TO GO envisions a region where sustainable transportation options are the best way to connect people to places.
Our Objectives

Better Health
Reduce harmful emissions and congestion, help commuters save money and improve community health.

Optimize Resources
Increase the usage of existing transportation solutions and build support for a network of robust services and options.

Increased Satisfaction
Help Kansas City area employers maximize success and employee satisfaction while driving change across the region.
Who We Are
We connect employers and commuters to transportation options.
We help employers maximize success and employee satisfaction while reducing drive-alone commutes through our consulting services. Our ridematching tools and resources empower commuters who want to ride, walk and roll to work.
We foster community around sustainable transportation.
We create fun, region-wide multimodal events, programming, and messaging efforts, including the Green Commute Challenge, Bike Month, commuter and business leader events and educational workshops.
We work with partners around the region to increase sustainable transportation access.
We collaborate with the region’s transportation leaders, including Commute with Enterprise, BikeWalkKC, RideKC Bike, RideKC, KC Streetcar, city governments, MODOT and KDOT, and many others.
We elevate the work of regional planning efforts.
WAY TO GO’s programs serve and support plans for the Kansas City region, such as Connected KC 2050, Smart Moves 3.0 and the Kansas City Climate Action Plan.
Program History

WAY TO GO started as the Regional Rideshare Program in 1980 to help commuters in the Kansas City area find carpool matches.
Carpool matching was originally done by hand, until the program started using a computer database in 1989.
In 2014 Rideshare became RideshareKC.
In 2023, we re-branded to WAY TO GO to align with our strategic direction and meet the current transportation needs of the region.
Funding
WAY TO GO is a publicly funded program and serves five counties in Missouri and four counties in Kansas and is part of the State Implementation Plan to improve air quality in Kansas and Missouri. It is also included in the metropolitan transportation plan for the Kansas City metro area.
WAY TO GO is a program of the Mid-America Regional Council.
WAY TO GO is primarily funded through the federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality program.
